Colour choice has a huge impact on the power and mood of your creations. This short blog is continuing with use of figures (from “Figure it out … ” 2 weeks ago). They are still the focal element in the created fantasy scene. But the colour combination is what makes the image work with such visual intensity and dynamic. This colour combination is a triad. A TRIAD is an equally sided triangle within the colour circle. You can rotate that triangle to point at any of the colour combinations.
Let’s take a look at the video first – it is accompanied by some music. Such an image is not difficult to create and will vary every time, offering new options and possibilities as it is created. I used Red Violet, Golden Yellow and Blue Green – great for a fantasy feeling!
These TRIAD combinations are colour schemes that use colours which are evenly spaced around the colour wheel. The examples below are just a few of the numerous subtle possibilities available. However, to use triadic harmonies to their best advantage, the colours need to be well balanced. One successful approach is to allow one colour to dominate and then use the other two as accents. I let the red violet be the primary colour in this fantasy creation.
The result of triadic colour schemes can be quite vibrant. And even when using pale or unsaturated triads of colour the results can have a visually good dynamic feel to the eye.
During creation of the image, there came a moment when I added the 5 rays in the sky area. And although literally these increased the radiance, I was just as happy with the way it looked before they were added.
So that’s a question to consider.
Which is the better ending?
The music was made in another creative process. It was not particularly for this video, but length wise it fitted, so I used it. And it is interesting how much effect a piece of music can have on the viewers experience of the video.
For me, the creative pleasure of “doing all aspects” overrides the perfection of all aspects. These creations don’t have to please everyone, but they do have to satisfy me as their creator. But of course, the hoe is also that the observer, the eventual recipient will also enjoy some or all aspects of the creation too. And in a way we are then a triad, a triangle of equally valuable points – me as the creator, the image as the creation and you as the witness, recipient, observer. Thanks for playing your part …
